Original bronze
Sculptor
A. Thomas Schomberg, 1982
IISOH Museum
State College, Pennsylvania
The original bronze statue of ROCKY was created by Colorado artist A. Thomas Schomberg
for Sylvester Stallone. Stallone used the statue in his film Rocky III and it originally stood in front of the
Philadelphia Museum of Art at the top of the steps. The statue was later moved to the sports complex in
South Philadelphia and stood in front of the First Union Spectrum. In 2006 Stallone made his sixth ROCKY
movie and the statue was moved again to a permanent location in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art
where it can be seen today. The statue is known as ROCKY #1.
See that statue in an image provided to us courtesy of Schomberg Studios....ROCKY #1.

The Artist, A. Thomas Schomberg, made a limited edition of three of these statues.
Our statue is ROCKY #2 and it will stand in front of our Museum in Central Pennsylvania.
The IISOH will acquire this original bronze sculpture through the generosity of a donor.
The donation that is being sought is for $3.5 million in order to create the both the SCULPTURE GARDEN
endowment and the BOXING endowment and to further support the mission of the IISOH.
The BOXING endowment will provide funds to expand the boxing collection in the Library and Museum,
while the SCULPTURE GARDEN endowment will provide funds for perpetual care of the statue and the gardens.
In grateful appreciation for their generous support the IISOH will have the donor name both endowments,
subject to the final approval of the Board of Directors of the IISOH.
The third and last copy of this monumental sculpture was acquired by a museum in California
where it can be seen inside the museum.

Meet the Board of Directors here.
